👋 Quick Intro & Why I’m Sharing This
Hey folks,
I don’t usually write stuff like this, but I wanted to share my journey with Meta ads (Facebook + Instagram). Over the past year, I’ve spent more than ₹5,00,000 of my own money, not agency budget, not client accounts. On paid ads for small ecommerce products and local services.
It wasn’t smooth. I burned cash. I chased shiny tactics. I even thought of quitting a few times.
But I stuck with it, and now I’m finally seeing consistent results, solid ROAS (return on ad spend), better conversions, and confidence in my strategy. (Try the FREE ROAS calculator i built using AI)
If you’re just starting out, I hope this saves you time, stress, and some hard-earned rupees.
🛠️ Backstory: My First Few Ads Totally Flopped
When I started running Meta ads, I did what most people do. I watched a few YouTube videos, copied a few interest targeting tricks, made “cool-looking” graphics, and boosted posts.
Result?
A few clicks, no sales, and a lot of confusion.
I thought Meta ads were broken. Turns out, I was the one doing it wrong.
📈 What’s Working for Me Now (2025)
After months of trial and error, here’s what’s actually bringing results — especially for small businesses or solo creators.
1. 📱 Real, simple content beats polished ads
Forget high-budget edits. My best ads were phone-shot videos of the product being used, customer reactions, or me explaining the offer.
People scroll past “ad-looking” posts. But when it looks like a real moment or story, they watch.
Beginner Tip: Shoot a 15–30 sec video showing how your product solves a problem. No need for actors or animations.
2. 🧠 Broad targeting + good creative = winning combo
I used to overthink targeting. Interests, behaviors, lookalikes, etc. Now I mostly go broad (18+, India, both genders) and focus on creative quality.
Meta’s AI is scary good now. If your ad is engaging, it finds the right people.
Beginner Tip: Don’t stress about niche targeting. Focus on what you’re saying and showing.
3. 🤝 Retargeting with social proof is low-hanging fruit
Once I set up re-targeting (for website visitors), I noticed something: ads with reviews or testimonials crushed it. Real people talking about your product builds trust fast.
Beginner Tip: Create a custom audience of site visitors from the past 30 days. Show them happy customer reviews or “Before/After” results.
4. ⚡ Fixing website speed & checkout flow doubled my ROAS
I didn’t take my landing page seriously until I saw people bouncing without buying. I optimized speed (especially on mobile), simplified the checkout steps, and suddenly — results improved.
Beginner Tip: Use free tools like Google Page Speed Insights. Aim for <3 seconds load time on mobile.
5. 🧘♂️ Don’t kill ads too early — give the algorithm time
Some of my best ads started slow. If I had shut them down on Day 1, I would’ve lost money.
Unless your CPMs are sky-high or CTR is under 0.5%, give your ads at least 48–72 hours to stabilize.
Beginner Tip: Avoid judging performance too early. Let the learning phase do its thing.
🎯 Extra Tips for Beginners in India
Here are a few more tips I wish I knew earlier:
- 💸 Start with ₹300–₹1,000/day. You don’t need a big budget to learn fast.
- 📹 Test 3–5 creatives — even small changes (first line, thumbnail, CTA) can change results.
- 👨👩👧 Think mobile-first. Most Indian users are on mobile. Your site, videos, and text should all look good on a small screen.
- 🔍 Install Meta Pixel early. It helps Meta learn faster and gives you real data.
- 🎁 Make your offer clear. A good ad can’t save a confusing or weak offer. Add urgency, bundles, or free delivery where you can.
💬 Final Thoughts
If you’re new to ads and feeling lost, you’re not alone.
I made tons of mistakes but the key is to keep testing, keep learning, and let the algorithm do its job once your message is right.
I’m still learning. I still mess up. But now I waste a lot less money and get a lot more results.
If you’re running your first campaigns, or you’re stuck and want to brainstorm, feel free to reach out. I’d love to trade feedback, ideas, or just connect with others figuring it out too.
